Technique, equipment and tips for getting started on the right foot

Distance alone does not determine how challenging a trail is. Before setting off, always consider the elevation gain, the type of terrain and the overall difficulty of the route. Choose an itinerary suited to your experience and be prepared for climbs, descents and technical sections.

Absolutely not. Even experienced runners alternate between running and walking on steeper sections. Find your own rhythm, save your energy and take on each climb at your own pace. On the trail, what matters is making it to the end, not running every single metre.

Mountain weather can change quickly. Trail shoes with good grip, water, suitable clothing and an extra layer are the essentials. A lightweight backpack allows you to carry everything you need without weighing you down.

Of course. You don’t need to be an experienced runner to get started. Choose a short route suited to your level and gradually get used to climbs, descents and uneven terrain. Walk when needed, listen to your body and gradually increase the difficulty.

This is probably the easiest question: yes. And in Alta Badia, it would be a shame not to. On the trail, however, always keep an eye out for roots, rocks and changes in gradient. Find your rhythm, watch your footing and enjoy the view whenever the trail allows you to.
