Sellaronda on skis by night: a ski marathon like no other. This is a ski mountaineering race for teams of 2 people, starting at sunset and covering a distance of 42 kilometers with 2,700 meters of elevation gain. The route follows a clockwise direction around the Sella Group, and each year the start takes place in turn from one of the four surrounding towns: Corvara, Arabba, Canazei, and Selva di Val Gardena.
The Sellaronda Skimarathon, takes place this year in Arabba. Start and finish are in Corvara, with the race beginning at 6:00 pm. The 42 km course runs through Arabba, Canazei, Selva Gardena and Corvara before returning to Arabba.
Follow the SS244 Val Badia road towards Corvara and continue on road SS243 to Colfosco, finally turn left along the second street till the parking area in Burjé street.

Effort, stamina, cold, limited visibility: it's night and we are at high altitudes. All around are the majestically towering peaks of the Sella Group. That's what it's all about, and it's by no means trivial.
How much time will it take for a decent night-marathon-skier to complete the loop?
Trained legs, technique, stamina and skills are essential. The Sellaronda Skimarathon calls for trained athletes that take between four and five hours to complete the marathon. Pretty impressive.
Does the race always start from Corvara?
No, each year it starts from a different location: Corvara, Arabba, Canazei or Selva di Val Gardena.
What are climbing skins and how are they produced?
Climbing skins (or ski skins) are an essential piece of ski touring equipment which allows skiers to ascend the steep and snow-covered slopes without sliding backwards. These are either made of mohair, nylon or a combination of both.
Can ski touring, in the light of climate change, provide a sustainable alternative to skiing?
Absolutely. However, it not only takes a purely technical but also a mindful approach to this sports discipline. Ski touring is not about hit-and-runs, it’s based on an understanding of the mountains that differs greatly from the funfair.
