Alta Badia in autumn, when taste and beauty become one

While the days are still long, the colours of nature unfold in their irresistible glory as summer’s fuss fades away to leave space for silence and a more relaxed pace

So it is against this background, that, between September and October, Alta Badia organises an event of an unequivocal title: Munts dl altonn. I's an invitation to slow down, observe, and immerse yourself in the most enchanting season of the mountain landscapes. It's a chance to walk among vibrant trails, breathe in the earthy scents of the forest floor, and taste the flavours that express the true character of the region.

Over the course of three weeks, the Dolomites become the stage for a series of original, authentic experiences, led by those who know and love this land. Each week features three distinct activities, each set at a different altitude.

Each weekly itinerary culminates in a special culinary event at a mountain hut where regional products from each altitude zone take center stage—enhanced by tastings and exclusive experiences.

Begin below

Slow steps through autumn’s quiet heart

The journey starts where the forest glows in gold and silence wraps around every branch. Among hidden paths and soft clearings, beneath a canopy of changing leaves, time slows down. A week to move gently, to notice, to reconnect with the land as it turns toward rest.

The middle way

Where pastures open and light grows long

Mid-altitude brings balance. The meadows are quieter now, touched by frost and autumn sun. The air is crisp, the rhythm steady, and the views wide and generous. This is a week of stillness and spaciousness — a gentle passage between valley and peak.

Toward the heights

Where autumn meets the sky

Higher up, the land grows bare, the wind sharper, the silence deeper. The climb is steady, the views infinite. Here, where the mountains show their purest form, every step brings perspective. A week for those drawn to the essential — where nature speaks with clarity and grace.

Good to know

By partnering up with the Forestry Corps, children in primary school actively participate in the planting of trees. A highly symbolic gesture that aims at raising people's awareness of the fundamental importance of nature and its preservation.

In the needle cells of the “lersc”, as we call larches in Ladin, are carotenoids – orange pigments that are hidden beneath the green chlorophyll. Once the days start getting shorter and the chlorophyll diminishes, orange and then yellow prevail over green.

It’s a terribly invasive insect that, following storm Vaja in October 2018, destroyed millions of trees and is spreading in our forests as it finds the ideal habitat among felled trees.

Nature conservation is about safeguarding biodiversity - a variety of living beings populating the Earth by means of a diverse range of genes, species, populations and ecosystems.
