Alta Badia, when snow and wine go hand in hand, the project “Sommelier on the slopes” introduces you to the finest South Tyrolean wines, which you can savour on your skis! Accompanied by a guide and experienced sommelier, you will ski from mountain hut to mountain hut enjoying the distinctive flavour of some of the most prestigious South Tyrolean wines. The wine tasting follows the classic approach of the AIS – Italian Sommelier Association, analysing in sequence appearance, smell and taste, uncovering each wine's characteristics, peculiarities and best food pairings.
An afternoon on skis from hut to hut accompanied by an expert sommelier and a ski instructor. Wine tasting in the huts with explanation of the properties of the best Alto Adige wines. Cooperation with the Alto Adige Wine Consortium and the Sommelier Association South Tyrol.

Follow the SS244 Val Badia road towards La Villa. The cable car that leads to the meeting point at Piz La Ila is located directly in the village. From there you ski to the participating huts.
South Tyrol produces a variety of high-quality wines, but which ones are native grape varieties?
The “Lagrein”, which has its origins in the area of Bolzano, and the “Schiava”, the most popular wine in South Tyrol. While the Lagrein delights with its garnet-red colour and a scent of wild berries, the Schiava is characterised by a fruity aroma which also features a slight hint of almond.
Why does the Lagrein appear so dark in colour?
This is because the grape skin is thick and therefore contains more pigments and tannins.
Which food pairings are most suitable for South Tyrolean wines?
Gewürztraminer and Riesling are perfect accompaniments for aperitifs, vegetarian dishes and freshwater fish. And while the Lagrein is an excellent match for game, beef as well as seasoned cheeses, the Schiava pairs nicely with bacon and traditional South Tyrolean dishes.
Climate change requires new production strategies, what is South Tyrol up to in this regard?
The South Tyrolean Wine Consortium adhered to the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations and is already strongly focusing on sustainable wine production, not only for ethical purposes but also as a straightforward matter of survival.
