Spectacular Dolomite peaks and legendary mountain passes: The Sellaronda is one of the most beautiful and popular circular routes in the Alps and offers all kinds of exciting options in winter or in summer. One of these is the Sellaronda mountain biking tour. The tour requires a good level of physical fitness and mountain biking experience, because there are some tricky climbs and a few difficult descents to manage. However, for the last few years there has been the option of avoiding some of the particularly steep climbs by using lifts, making it possible to complete the tour in a day.

Following the Sella Ronda MTB Tour Anti-Clockwise there is a total height difference of about 1.020 m to be cycled uphill and several descents through single trails or forest roads. Therefore it is more suited to those who enjoy cycling uphill on your MTB or e-bike. The time needed to complete the tour varies according the ability of the biker: from a minimum 6 to a maximum of 9 hours, with a lunch break included.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Corvara, an easy uphill takes you to Colfosco. The gondola lift up at the Gardena Pass allows some rest and the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains before the descent to Selva di Val Gardena. The gondola lift Ciampinoi takes you up to the Ciapinoi, right to the feet of the Sassolungo Massif. After a short descent on a path used also by hikers and another short descent on gravel road, you reach the Gran Paradiso chairlift. The mountain station of the chairlift is at the highest point of the famous “Città dei Sassi” (Stone City). Continue on a flowy gravel road to the parking area just under the Sella Pass. From here the descent on gravel road with a few bends that sometimes are particularly steep, leads to Campitello di Fassa in Val di Fassa. From Canazei with the help of two cablecars you reach Col dei Rossi, where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the ‘Queen of the Dolomites’, the Marmolada Glacier, and the artificial Fedaia Lake. A single trail will lead to the cablecar Fodom, which takes you to Pordoi Pass. Form there a long and very panoramic trail takes you to Burz, followed by a more difficult trail down to Arabba. From here, after a short stretch on an asphalt road, there is quite a long uphill ride through the woods up to Cherz and further until the meadow of Inzija just above the Campolongo Pass. Here the descent partly on gravel road and partly on trails, leads to Corvara.
