Santa Maria dai Ciüf - Assumption of the Virgin Mary
On the 15th of August, according to a long tradition, women and children bring a basket filled with carefully arranged flowers and herbs to the church to be blessed. The flowers and herbs with which the baskets are decorated vary from village to village, depending on the altitude of the village.
The unwritten rule that everyone generally follows is that there should always be a medicinal herb in the basket. Otherwise, flowers such as geraniums in different colours, currant and arnica flowers or edelweiss are placed in the basket.
The flowers in different sizes and colours are also tied in such a way that they form different motifs, such as the "M" of Mary.
Other elements are placed at the bottom of the baskets under the flowers, for example, hay dust, wheat, salt and flour.
