Located centrally in Alta Badia, at 1,433 m (4,701 ft), La Villa is surrounded by the UNESCO natural parks of Puez-Odle and Fanes-Senes-Braies. Ćiastel Colz castle and the church dedicated to the holy Maria ad Stellam and dating back to 1516 form the village's historical centre. The church also gives La Villa village its German name: Stern (Star).
Since the 1970s, the quality in accommodation and restaurant in La Villa and the rest of Alta Badia saw a steady increase. Today visitors can choose the form of accommodation that suits their needs among: hotel, guest house, B&B, apartment, farm holiday or campsite.

Every December, La Villa becomes the centre of the world of international ski racing on the Gran Risa slope, one of the most technically challenging slopes in the alpine Ski World Cup. La Villa is the sportive and glamorous stage for the world’s best ski racing's stars. Piz La Ila gondola connects to the skiing area on the plateau between La Villa, San Cassiano and Corvara, where inviting huts pamper the skiers with delicious dishes.
In summer, La Villa is popular with hikers and cyclists thanks to its myriad of hiking trails and cycling tours.
