Tru di lersc / Larch path
From San Cassiano to Rüdeferia along the larch trail
Overview: This educational nature trail, the „Tru di lersc“ Larch Trail, 1.5 kms long, extends through larch woods and mountain meadows at the foot of the Fanes–Senes–Braies Natural Park between Rü and Rüdeferia. At the Rüdeferia farm, you can admire a recently restored traditional water mill, which is now in perfect working order again. All along the trail, there are information signs and cards giving the main details of some of the types of plants and shrubs, and boards carrying information on the area’s flora, fauna and geology.
Starting point: San Cassiano - centre (1524 m)
Itinerary: From the church of San Cassiano, take the road marked 15 upwards going east, which leads firstly to Hotel Fanes and then goes on, still on a tarmac surface, to Larjëi. From here, on the right, follow the road nr. 15/A to reach the hamlet of Rü. Continuing on the left between two fences, go slightly downhill towards Rüdeferia. The Office of Natural Parks has set up an educational nature trail which offers an opportunity to admire several interesting works, created in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment, such as the area’s typical fencing or dry stone walls. All along the trail there are signs giving information on the area’s flora, fauna and geology. Continue on trail nr. 15 until you reach Rüdeferia with the water mill. To return to San Cassiano, keep on nr. 15 in a southerly direction, until the junction with the „Tru di lersc“ Larch Trail. Now keep to the right and continue on the trail (nr. 15) which goes past Larjëi, before finally descending to San Cassiano.
