San Cassiano - Störes - Pralongià

12,7 km
3,5 h

From Armentarola to Pralongià, passing through Störes meadows
Overview: This excursion leads from Armentarola along a wide trail, through a wood rolling gently uphill, to the Störes meadows. This point affords a glorious view out over the Pralongià plateau, and of the mountains which frame Alta Badia - Sas dla Crusc, Lavarela, Conturines and Lagazuoi.
Starting point: San Cassiano/Armentarola – bus stop (1726 m)
Itinerary:Take trail nr. 18, going south, from Hotel Armentarola, crossing the river close to Hotel Gran Ancëi. Go right here, following the directions for Pralongià, and take trail nr. 24/A, travelling through a gently rising meadow to the wood’s edge. Carrying on through the wood, you will climb up along Val de Störes, coming across the vast homonymous meadows (1h 30min.). This route is extremely interesting from a geological perspective. Still climbing, you will come to the large ridge of Störes. The Ütia Pralongià Hut (2h 10min.) lies to the west from here.
The return to San Cassiano, by way of the Ütia Malga Saraghes Hut, is undertaken by initially following trail nr. 23 for approximately 500 metres northwards, then turning right, in the direction of San Cassiano (nr. 22). Going downhill at a gentle gradient through meadows and pastures while heading north-east, your next stop is at the Ütia Malga Saraghes Hut (50min.). Continuing on trail nr. 22, will bring you, after a further 50 minutes, to the town of San Cassiano.
End point: San Cassiano – bus stop (1524 m)
Stop-off points: Ütia Pralongià, Ütia Malga Saraghes
Level of difficulty: easy/medium walk
Type of trail: large path
