La Villa - Fanes - Pederü
From La Villa to Fanes by Forcela Medesc Scharte
Overview: This long, but not challenging, excursion will take you into the fascinating Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park.
If you’re looking for unspoilt worlds, then look no further. The profusion of flowers, the chamoix goats and marmot squirrels frolicking on the sheer slopes but, first and foremost the panoramic view and local colour will take your breath away each time you come to this area, the Kingdom of Fanes.
Starting point: La Villa – bus stop (1427 m)
Itinerary: From the bus stop in the centre of La Villa, go down heading east up to river Gadera, following road sign nr. 12 signposted Forcela Medesc Scharte and Fanes. Go over the bridge to reach Ćianins and Ćiampidel. Continuing east, you’ll cross trail nr. 15 and, climbing through a lovely forest of firs, you’ll come to the foot of Val Medesc. The climb up the valley is tiring, and the trail itself is in a poor state due to the most recent storms.Once you
reach the Forcela Medesc Scharte however (2530 m) (3h 30min.),
a whole new world opens up before you. The view is impressive, a panorama opens out over the entire Fanes plateau, right to the summits of Sennes and Braies. The descent to the Fanes huts is pleasant, and passes initially next to Lêch Parom, next across the plains, still keeping to trail nr. 12, arriving after 5 hours and 10 minutes at the Ütia Lavarela Hut and Ütia Fanes Hut.
At this point, a short rest and something to eat and drink is called for. In between the two refuges, you can admire the beautiful, and romantic, Lêch Vërt, which mirrors in its waters the famous „Marmot Parliament“. After your well deserved rest, continue to follow road nr. 7 down up to Pederü (1h 30min.), and from there, eventually make your way back by bus (find out about the times).
End point: Pederü (1543 m)
Stop-off points: Ütia Fanes, Ütia Lavarela
Level of difficulty: difficult walk
Type of trail: simple but steep path, requires montaineering training
