Ju de Frara/Passo Gardena - Puez

12,2 km
4,2 h

From the Ju de Frara/Passo Gardena to the Ütia de Puez Hut
Overview: Mountain hike over the Puez plateau, considered as resembling a lunar landscape by many, but also famed for the variety and unique nature of its high mountain flora and fauna. The fascinating backdrop of the bizarre rock towers at the Cir Pass will also astonish you. The road brings you close to Lake Crespëina (2374 m) sheltered in a grassy hollow to the left of the trail.
Starting point: Ju de Frara/Passo Gardena (2118 m)
Itinerary: From the Ju de Frara/Passo Gardena, follow trail nr. 2, on its north-west ascent through flower-carpeted meadows and below the walls of the Cir until you reach the Ütia Jimmy Hut.
The trail climbs sharply upwards by way of a steep slope to the Cir Pass (2464 m). Leaving the pass, there is a short downhill section followed by a fairly steep uphill stretch before coming to the Crespëina Pass (2531 m), where the plateau opens out before you. After a short descent, the trail crosses the plateau, towards the north-east where it reaches the Ćiampëi Pass (2359 m).
It passes briefly up through a narrow crevice and then, once more on even ground,
arrives at the Ütia de Puez Hut (2481 m) (2h 30min.). To descend to Colfosco, follow the trail you took on your outward journey up to the Ćiampëi Pass. From there take the descent on the left on trail nr. 4, coming to the Ütia Edelweiß Hut and, finally, Colfosco (1h 50min.).
End point: Colfosco – bus stop (1624 m)
Refreshments: Ütia Jimmy, Ütia de Puez, Ütia Edelweiß
Level of difficulty: medium walk
Type of trail: simple path
