Nos Ladins - Matteo and the ritual of transhumance

When and where18.09.2022
  • 01:00 PM-03:00 PM
San Cassiano

Activities with the ambassadors of the Ladin tradition.

Matteo is a young farmer and very active in the community. He is a member of the young farmers’ group, loves his job and works with passion and dedication. He is a genuine and kind person and he is the repository of the values of rural culture, which he seeks to preserve and cultivate consistently and with determination.Transhumance is a rite that has been passed down over the centuries and that is linked to the seasonal migration of flocks of sheep, herds of cows and shepherds who move from the villages on the bottom of the valley to the grazing pastures higher up in the mountains, and down again, on paths and roads that once were very important in the landscape context of alpine communities. Spending a few hours with Matteo, who is a farmer like the farmers of the past, when he covers the last kilometres of the transhumance and takes his livestock down to the valley, is a fascinating experience that brings us back in time. In Badia transhumance takes place in the period of the traditional festival of the town and this is also a reason why you cannot miss this opportunity. Departure from "Capanna Alpina", above San Cassiano.
