L'edema dla geologia - Exhibition 'Minerals of the Dolomites'

When and where22.07.2023
  • 08:00 AM-07:00 PM
Corvara

The Dolomites and their surroundings are a concentration of geological diversity.
The minerals that our mountains contain are mute testimony to the events that marked the history of the Earth and especially of the Alpine Arc. These fascinating masterpieces of nature have been studied and collected since the 18th century and have their place in the world's geological museums.

This small exhibition gives you an overview of the minerals found in the various geological formations of the Dolomites and takes you back to the most important events in their evolution. Some minerals were formed in the Triassic volcanic formations of the Dolomites, others in the violent eruptions of the ancient Permian "supervolcano" on which the Dolomites are built. They are made up of rocks that were formed by organisms living in shallow tropical seas. The famous contact minerals of the Val di Fiemme and Fassa are the result of the meeting between the fire of the Triassic volcanoes and the sea water that formed the dolomite rocks.
Not to be forgotten are the minerals found in the crevices of the Alps. They are inextricably linked to the rise of the Alps.
