San Cassiano - Fanes -Pederü
From San Cassiano through Fanes to Pederü
Overview: Excursion in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park. The Fanes mountain is without a doubt one of the loveliest and enchanting settings in the entire Dolomites area, and it is easy to reach from the Val Badia, Cortina and Marebbe. As you walk, you can admire the typical flora and fauna of this area.
Starting point: San Cassiano/Capanna Alpina (1729 m)
Itinerary: From San Cassiano, go to the Capanna Alpina (1729 m) either by public transport or car. From the refuge, take trail nr. 11, flat as you commence heading east, but then, going north-east, climb the wooded slope which leads to Col de Loćia (2069 m). Here, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Sela and Marmolada. Continuing on the same trail as it rises and falls, through the great swathes of Alpine pines, you will come to the Gran Plan or
Plan de Ciaulunch, a large verdant plateau, at the beginning of which lies the junction for the Lagazuoi.
At the plateau’s end, climb up towards the Tade- ga pass (left fork for Lavarela and Conturines). Slightly downhill but always in the same direction, carry on until you arrive at the Malga Gran Fanes (2110 m) (2h). Leave the hut behind, and climb to the Lêch de Limo. Finally, take the fairly steep path down towards the Fanes and Lavarela huts
(2h 40min.). Admire the romantic Lêch Vërt from between the two refuges. Go down to Pederü from the refuge following the nr. 7 signs which lead downhill, towards Pederü (1544 m) (4h 10min.) and the bus stop (don’t forget to check the times!).
End point: Pederü - bus stop (1544 m)
Stop-off points: Malga Gran Fanes, Ütia Fanes, Ütia Lavarela
Level of difficulty: medium/difficult walk
Type of trail: simple path
