Offering many fascinating options for nature lovers, epicures and athletes, the Sellaronda ranks among the most beautiful and popular tours in the Alps. Fabulous slopes and thrilling ski touring races in winter, legendary bicycle competitions and leisure tours with race bicycle and mountain bike in summer. Top-class events and individual excursions. The Sellaronda makes your dreams come true.
The Sellaronda in winter
In the Alta Badia region, you can start the Sellaronda at Corvara and Colfosco. After that, a varied ski day awaits leading over a unique run traversing four Ladin valleys Alta Badia, Val Gardena, Arabba and Val di Fassa and one will make outstanding experiences on the way. First and foremost, the Sellaronda tour is a leisure, stress-free tour which combines beautiful downhill runs with gastronomical specialties.
In March, a spectacular race, the Sellaronda Skimarathon, is held on the Sellaronda circuit. This international ski touring marathon is held at night for teams of two trained top athletes and touring skiers.
The route covers 42 km (26.1 mi) and 2,800 metres (9,186 ft) of altitude difference and leads trough the Dolomites' landscape around the Sellastock mountains in the dark of the night. Winning times are slightly above three hours.
The Sellaronda in summer
In summer, the tour over legendary passes such as the Gardena, Sella, Pordoi and Campolongo on the race bicycle is a classic. The route covering 58 km (36.7 mi) and roughly 1,800 metres (5,905 ft) of altitude difference is simply a must for bicycle athletes. You can ride them separately but also experience and enjoy them in the course of one of the popular cycling events.
The sporting variant of the Sellaronda tour is the Maratona dles Dolomites, one of the most famous bicycle races in the Alps with three different routes of which the Sellaronda is the shortest.
9,000 bicycle athletes can participate in the Maratona which is always held in July. Two to three times more apply to take part.
But there is also a more unhurried option. During the Sellaronda Bike Day in June, the route is reserved for bicyclists who prefer to ride the way they feel like, without having their time taken. A people's cycling day of superlatives.
Off the streets, you can experience the Sellaronda in a highly individualised way. On the mountain bike, also this is possible. The Sellaronda MTB tour has two variants - a clock-wise run and a counter-clockwise run.
Local guides take you on the tour and most of the altitude differences are covered using cable cars. The clock-wise run covers 58 km (36.7 mi) and 450 metres (1,476 ft) of altitude difference whereas in the opposite direction, one will ride 53 km (32 mi) and cover 900 metres (2,952 ft) of altitude change. In any case, it is a perfect leisure tour.
The Sellaronda is also the stage for the Sellaronda Hero, one of the toughest mountain bike marathon in the world, covering 84 km (52.3 mi) and 62 km (38.9 mi).
