Alta Badia holidays for early birds

sunrise over the Dolomites and powder snow slopes

An early breakfast high up at 2000 metres, with the sun’s first rays illuminating the Dolomites then skiing on the as yet untouched slopes: experience this unique opportunity while staying in Alta Badia.

The meeting point for lovers of early morning skiing is the Col Alt, the mountain birthplace of skiing in Italy. Iit was here that, in 1947, Erich Kostner, pioneer of the Dolomites Superski, built Italy’s first chair lift. At 07.00 and then again at 07.30, a snow cat brings skiers up to the Col Alt refuge for a hearty breakfast based on fresh South-Tyrol produce. Fortified by a speck sandwich and a slice of Strudel, you can watch the sun’s first rays sweep over the Sella massif and Sassongher mountain.

And then – everyone onto the piste and revelling in an unforgettable experience in the life of every skier: making your own mark on the virgin snow.
